Local Attractions and Places of Interest
The four mile section of the Kinnaber to Brechin line, between Brechin and the Bridge of Dun forms the basis of this site preserving an important fragment of Scotland's historic railways. Picturesque Victorian Brechin Station is itself the only remaining terminus of the Caledonian Branch line.
The Caledonian Railway's collection of classic steam and vintage diesel locomotives and coaches run a summer timetable of passenger trains between the original stations at Brechin and Bridge of Dun.
A mansion and an estate located 2 miles (3 km) south southwest of Montrose. The third property in the vicinity, Dunninald Castle was built in the Gothic-revival style to the designs of architect James Gillespie Graham (1776 - 1855) for Peter Arklay in 1824. Little remains of the first, Black Jack's Castle, built in the 15th century for the Gray family.

Fettercairn distillery has been in operation since 1824, making it one of Scotland's oldest malt whisky distilleries. The Distillery is snugly tucked away at the foot of the Cairngorm mountains from which it takes spring water supplies. This area is one of Scotland's most fertile regions, and is why Fettercairn is hidden amongst its forests and glens. These distinct characteristics combine to produce a balanced malt whisky with a fine character.

A Georgian mansion house in Angus, situated to the west of Montrose overlooking the Montrose Basin. It was designed and built by William Adam in 1730 for David Erskine, Lord Dun. The house, which has superb plasterwork by Joseph Enzer, has associations with Lady Augusta Kennedy-Erskine, a natural daughter of William IV and Mrs Jordan.
The property, including 361 ha (893 acres) of woodlands and farmland, was bequeathed to the National Trust for Scotland in 1980 by Mrs M.A.A. Lovett.
A large inlet of the North Sea on the coast of Angus, Lunan Bay lies 5 miles to the south of Montrose between Boddin Point and the Lang Craig. The Lunan Water enters the bay near the village of Lunan.
The beach is a beautiful place to get away from it all and relax. If swimming in the sea or going surfing, be careful as there are strong currents. Look out for the wildlife, including nesting puffins.

A wide sandy bay which extends 5 miles (8 km) north northeast from the outflow of the River South Esk at Montrose beyond the mouth of the North Esk, to St Cyrus. Fringed by sand-dunes.
The Links and Golf Courses of Montrose lie at southern end, while the St. Cyrus National Nature Reserve lies at the northern end.

Gifted to the town by Andrew Carnegie, Montrose Library hold a collection of books and ephemera highlighting all aspects of Montrose past and present.
The Museum opened in 1842. There are collections of local archaeology, social, industrial and maritime history, natural sciences, Pictish stones.

The Montrose Seafront Splash play area is a great place for a day out. Located on the Traill Drive next to one of Scotland's most extensive golden beaches it provides fun for all the family.
